About Us
The Turkish Young Academy is rooted in the Outstanding Young Scientist Award Programme (TÜBA-GEBİP), initiated in 2001. In order to provide TÜBA-GEBİP awardees with a more institutional structure and international representation in conducting their scientific work, efforts to establish the Turkish Young Academy began with the decision of the TÜBA Academy Council at its 307th meeting held on 30 November 2019. The Turkish Young Academy was officially founded following an amendment to Presidential Decree No. 4, dated 15 July 2018 and published in the Official Gazette No. 30479, which was enacted on 13 November 2021.The foundational principles that shaped the Turkish Young Academy were adopted in October 2022 by a decision of the Academy Council, and the Academy officially launched its activities at the 2022 Annual Evaluation Meeting of TÜBA-GEBİP. The Regulation of the Turkish Young Academy of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (issue no. 32939) was published in the Official Gazette on 27 June 2025.In many countries around the world, particularly in Europe, young academies have begun operating under the guidance of their national science academies. Among the earliest and most prominent examples in Europe are the German Young Academy (Die Junge Akademie, established in 2001), the Dutch Young Academy (De Jonge Akademie, established in 2005), and the Austrian Young Academy (Junge Kurie, established in 2008).The establishment of the Turkish Young Academy builds on the institutional foundation and accumulated experience of the TÜBA-GEBİP initiative, which has recognized 669 outstanding young scientists from its inception in 2001 through to 2024.The central office of the Turkish Young Academy is located in İstanbul Rabi Medrese, İstanbul. In addition to supporting scientific research and projects, the İstanbul office is responsible for all administrative and organizational activities.
