The establishment process of the Turkish Young Academy was initiated at the 307th meeting of the Academy Council of the Turkish Academy of Sciences on 30 November 2019, and the Turkish Young Academy was officially founded through an amendment dated 13 November 2021 to Presidential Decree No. 4, dated 15 July 2018 and published in the Official Gazette No. 30479.

The Turkish Young Academy Principles, which shape the formation of the Young Academy Community, were adopted by the Council decision in October 2022. The Young Academy officially began its activities at the 2022 GEBİP Evaluation Meeting.

It was decided that these Academy activities will be conducted under the name Turkish Young Academy in Türkiye and as the Turkish Young Academy of Sciences internationally.

Considering the scope of activities of similar Young Academies worldwide, the TÜBA initiative and the GEBİP Award Programme have been transformed into the Turkish Young Academy.
