TÜBA-GEBİP Annual Evaluation Meeting

The TÜBA Outstanding Young Scientist Awards Program (GEBİP) Annual Evaluation Meeting was held at Balıkesir University. Within the scope of GEBİP, which rewards young scientists distinguished by their research and encourages high-quality studies, awardees are supported both financially and academically for three years. As natural members of the TÜBA Young Academy, these scientists convened at the Faculty of Applied Sciences in Burhaniye, Balıkesir University, to present and evaluate their academic activities.

The meeting brought together 39 TÜBA Members and 57 TÜBA Young Academy Members. The program commenced with opening speeches by TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker, Balıkesir Governor Hasan Şıldak, and Balıkesir University Rector Prof. Dr. İlter Kuş, and continued with a lecture entitled “Science, Technology and Industry in the 21st Century” (21. Yüzyılda Bilim, Teknoloji ve Endüstri) delivered by TÜBA Honorary Member Prof. Dr. Okyay Kaynak.

On the second day of the program, GEBİP awardees presented the projects they conduct in various scientific fields in six parallel sessions. These presentations served as a platform for exchanging ideas on evaluating and further developing the projects. At the end of the day, a general evaluation session was held, which was also attended by faculty members and students. Prof. Dr. Şeker emphasised that GEBİP provides Türkiye with qualified human resources in scientific competition and that such meetings are of great importance for international achievements. He also announced that the 2022 TÜBA–TÜBİTAK Awards would be presented to their recipients at a ceremony to be held on 28 December.

Balıkesir Governor Hasan Şıldak underlined that investment in science is an investment in the future, while Balıkesir University Rector Prof. Dr. İlter Kuş expressed his pride in hosting this important event. The TÜBA-GEBİP Annual Evaluation Meeting concluded with a social program held in Burhaniye.
