Achievements of TÜBA and TÜBA Young Academy Members in 2023

In 2023, TÜBA members and scientists awarded under the TÜBA-GEBİP Program achieved significant successes at national and international levels. Prof. Dr. H. Tayfun Özçelik received the International Thought Leader award from ASHG (American Society of Human Genetics), while Prof. Dr. Umran S. İnan was granted the John Adam Fleming Medal by AGU (American Geophysical Union). Prof. Dr. Ziya Öniş was honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award within the scope of the Kadir Has Awards. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Arslan became a member of the NAI (U.S. National Academy of Inventors). Prof. Dr. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev was elected to the IAP (InterAcademy Partnership) Election Committee. Prof. Dr. Kadriye Arzum Erdem Gürsan was invited to the scientific advisory board of the journal TALANTA.
GEBİP award-winning young scientists also received numerous national and international awards: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mert Gür won the TÜSEB Aziz Sancar Science Award; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Açelya Yılmazer Aktuna received the L’Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science fellowship; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Efe Can Gürcan was granted the Outstanding Achievement Award in Political Economy by WAPE. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Nilüfer Didiş Körhasan received the Humboldt Research Fellowship, and Prof. Dr. Hacer Topaktaş Üstüner was awarded by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Other members were selected to editorial boards of prestigious journals and to the European Union’s COST program.
