TÜBA Young Academy Member Asst. Prof. Dr. Gheorghe Appointed Editor at International Security

Asst. Prof. Dr. Eliza Gheorghe, a member of the TÜBA Young Academy and faculty member in the Department of International Relations at Bilkent University, has been appointed associate editor of International Security, one of the world’s leading journals in the field.
Dr. Gheorghe described this role as an exciting opportunity for Türkiye’s academic community, emphasizing the importance of continuing contributions to international and nuclear security scholarship supported by institutions like TÜBA. She aims to inspire and mentor the next generation of researchers, fostering growth in these critical areas. Her first book, Market of Doom: Proliferation and the Logic of Nuclear Trade, will soon be published by Cornell University Press.
International Security ranks first in international relations according to the 2024 impact factor rankings. Published by the Belfer Center at Harvard Kennedy School and printed by MIT Press, it stands as a top-tier journal in the field.
Who is Asst. Prof. Dr. Eliza Gheorghe?
She is an Assistant Professor at Bilkent University’s Department of International Relations and a Research Associate at Vanderbilt University’s ROCCA Lab. Dr. Gheorghe earned her Ph.D. from the University of Oxford and holds an M.A. from Georgetown University.
Her research focuses on nuclear proliferation, market dynamics, nuclear alliances, extended deterrence, and the global nonproliferation regime’s effectiveness. She has published in leading journals including International Security and Journal of Politics. She was honored with TÜBA's Outstanding Young Scientist Prize in 2020.
